APN CLINICAL CASE NIGHT WEBINAR

‘Working with Perfectionism: A Clinicians Approach’

Presenter:

Tonia-Marie Dempsey
Clinical Psychologist in Private Practice

About this webinar: It’s all too common that we have clients present to therapy for treatment of a specific condition, yet there’s far more going on behind the scenes. Along for the ride is a sometimes-lifelong battle with perfectionism that may have been minimised or not addressed at all. Perfectionism can be a significant contributing factor to their presentation; and can also be a barrier to progress in treatment, and ongoing management of mental health. This Webinar will discuss a clinician’s perspective on treating perfectionism, and how to approach working with perfectionistic clients in therapy.

About the presenter: Tonia-Marie Dempsey is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in the treatment of OCD and Anxiety Disorders. During her master’s degree she completed placements at Prince of Wales Hospital, St George Hospital, The Hills Grammar School, and The Sydney Obsessive Compulsive & Anxiety Disorders (SOCAD) practice, where her love of ERP was fostered. Tonia often travels to the US for the International OCD Conference hosted by The IOCD Foundation; and enjoys engaging in various professional development/training in Australia and overseas. Tonia was appointed as the first ‘National Early Career Representative’ for the APS College of Clinical Psychologists from 2014 to 2016, where she played an advocate role for Clinical Psychology Registrars; and worked alongside the National Committee when organising Clinical College Conferences. Prior to this she volunteered from 2011 to 2013 as the Assistant Secretary for The APS South West Sydney Branch, and as a facilitator for an Anxiety Disorder Support Group run by The Mental Health Association. Since 2014, Tonia has loved working in private practice in The Hills District of Sydney, where she treats clients across the lifespan who present for OCD and related disorders, Anxiety, Panic, Stress, and Perfectionism. As a ‘recovering perfectionist’ herself, Tonia strongly believes in practice what you teach, and has a candid, down to earth approach in therapy, as she feels it helps build rapport when working with OCD, anxious and perfectionistic clients.
