APN CLINICAL FOCUS SEMINAR

“All the Good Ones are Taken”
How to Help Hopeless Singles

Gemma Crib,

Clinical Psychologist in Private Practice

Equilibrium Psychology

About the 2019 seminars: The Anxiety Practitioners Network is pleased to bring you the 2019 series of Clinical Focus Seminars aimed at providing clinicians and clinical students with up to date information relating to different fields of anxiety treatment. These seminars will be run by clinicians and clinical researchers who are experts in their respective fields. All presenters will include an overview of their area, issues in assessment and measurement, current approaches to treatment, future directions in research and treatment, and some illustrative case studies.

About this seminar: In a world where being coupled is seen as normal, and the wedding day “the best day of your life” singles face incredible social stigma. Inevitably long-term singles will question what is wrong with them and can be vulnerable to depression and anxiety. Helping singles learn to love their single life and date healthily (should they want to find a partner) is an important and unique skill set that psychologists aren’t often given the opportunity to develop. Join us for a practical and playful peek into the psychology of the desperate and dateless and learn how help the singles in your life and practice “Do single well”!
• the usual suspects – spotting unhelpful thinking patterns in singles
• how to help with crappy core beliefs
• a look at loneliness and other yuck emotions
• avoidance versus acceptance- when to challenge and when to respect a singles choice
• ‘coming out’ as single
• managing the well meaning
• partner picking – The who, how and why
• the brain on love- endogenous dating drugs and how to deal with them
• dating “rules” for the modern world

About the presenter: Gemma Cribb is a happily single woman, self-confessed crazy cat lady, clinical psychologist and practice owner of Equilibrium psychology in the Sydney CBD. She has been treating the desperate and dateless for over 12 years and published the book “Doing Single Well” in 2018 to help singles worldwide learn to love their single life, and if they decide to date, delight in doing so!
