SUMMARY:Clinical Focus Seminar - Compulsive Hoarding: Conceptualisation\, Assessment & Treatment
DESCRIPTION:Title: Compulsive Hoarding: Conceptualisation\, Assessment & Treatment \nPresenter: Dr Jessica Grisham\, School of Psychology\, UNSW \nAbout this seminar: Compulsive hoarding (pathological collecting and saving behaviour) is much more widespread than is generally recognized. It is also one of the most challenging\, treatment-resistant psychological disorders that clinicians encounter. While hoarding has some similarities to OCD\, there are important differences that can significantly impact on treatment response. In this seminar\, Jessica will outline the current model of hoarding\, review assessment strategies and describe current cognitivebehavioural approaches to treatment. The seminar will have an applied\, clinical focus and will include a review of common difficulties faced by practitioners when treating hoarding\, as well as strategies to overcome these obstacles. Attendees will leave with an up-to-date understanding of the complex phenomenon of compulsive hoarding and a set of practical skills that they can apply to their own clients. \nAbout the presenter: Dr Jessica Grisham is an academic Clinical Psychologist and Lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales. She is an international authority on compulsive hoarding and has extensive clinical experience assessing and treating compulsive hoarding clients. Jessica’s research program is also focused on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) specifically\, and anxiety disorders more generally. She has research grants focused on understanding emotional and cognitive processes that maintain OCD and on the regulation of anger. \n
